U.S. Congressman Dan Lipinski, D-Western Springs, authored an amendment to authorize funding for air traffic control towers at smaller airports in the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2018 that passed the House of Representatives.

The amendment could facilitate funding for a tower at the Lewis University Airport in Romeoville, according to a news release from Lipinski's office.

"My amendment allows airports, such as the one at Lewis University in Romeoville, to apply for grants from the Small Airport Fund to construct air traffic control towers for participation in the Federal Contract Tower program," Lipinski said.
Lewis boasts the airport's convenient location and sees more than 100,000 arrivals and departures annually.
