U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski praised the announcement that Poland was nominated for inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program.

"I've been fighting for years to have Poland rightfully included," Lipinski said in a statement. "Over the years I have helped so many families get through the difficult process of acquiring a visa."

Lipinski, D-Western Springs, said he's hopeful the process for including Poland is "concluded quickly."

President Donald Trump announced last week the U.S. Department of State formally nominated Poland for entry in the program. If Poland is included, its nationals would be authorized to travel visa-free to the U.S. for business and tourism.

In a statement, the White House said the nomination was "an important step in continuing to increase economic, security, culture and people-to-people connections between our two nations."
