Congressman Lipinski Introduces Resolution Recognizing National Engineers Week

Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-03) has introduced H.Res. 849 in support of National Engineers Week, the annual celebration of the important contributions engineers make to our nation. National Engineers Week, which runs from February 16-22, seeks to ensure a diverse, well-educated engineering workforce for the future.

“Engineering is problem solving, and as an engineer myself, I have a special appreciation for the contributions made by engineers,” Lipinski said. “As great scientific discoveries are made in our universities and national labs, we need engineers to translate this research into tangible goods and services. I am glad to join this national celebration, and I thank those involved in programs to introduce tomorrow’s engineers to the opportunities in our field.”

Congressman Lipinski is one of a dozen Members of Congress with an engineering background. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and an M.S. in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University. This year marks the 15th year that Congressman Lipinski has recognized Engineers Week with a resolution in the House of Representatives.

On February 12, 2020, Congressman Lipinski spoke at the Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day luncheon on Capitol Hill. The Congressman spoke directly about bipartisan legislation aimed at encouraging women and underrepresented groups to pursue careers in engineering. Following the event, Rep. Lipinski met young women interested in engineering and other STEM careers to share his own experience and encourage them to follow their passion for engineering.
