Lipinski Announces $121,000 FEMA Grant for Merrionette Park Fire Department

CHICAGO--Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-03) announced this week that the Village of Merrionette Park Fire Department was awarded a $121,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The federal funding will finance the replacement of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and support additional face pieces, which will eliminate unsanitary face mask sharing and will ensure that every firefighter is properly fitted for their individual masks.

“SCBAs are life-saving tools and it is imperative that firefighters have the necessary safeguards in place to do their jobs,” Rep. Lipinski said. “I’m grateful that FEMA is providing funding for this important equipment to protect Merrionette Park’s firefighters. I thank them for their continued service to the community.”

The Merrionnette Park Fire Department serves the Merrionnette Park community in emergency medical services, fire suppression, hazardous materials mitigation, technical rescue, and vehicle extrication.

“This grant will allow the Merrionette Park Fire Department to serve our residents in a more efficient and effective manner by allowing us to replace all of our aging SCBA,” said Chief Thomas Wendt. “We would like thank Congressman Lipinski and FEMA for their continued support and funding of the Assistant to Firefighters Grant.”
