Lipinski statement on DuPage County Court ruling allowing Sterigenics plant to reopen in Willowbrook

Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) released the following statement today:

“I am disappointed that the DuPage County court has ruled that the Sterigenics facility in Willowbrook can resume operations.  I share the serious concerns and frustrations of those who, like me, live in the surrounding communities – we want assurances that our air is clean and safe. We should protect medical patients who need sterilized devices, but not at the expense of the health and safety of our communities. I've said all along that the US EPA should shut down Sterigenics until we're assured that it's not a threat to public health. We're not there.  I will continue to press the EPA for a strong federal ethylene oxide standard to protect the health and safety of those who live near Sterigenics and other plants that use this dangerous chemical."
