Transportation is at the root of our district’s economy and identity.  From the 1920s to the 1980s Historic Route 66 ran through the district, connecting Chicago to the nation. The district is home to Chicago’s Midway International Airport, the Des Plaines River, the Cal-Sag Channel, and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. Protecting these valuable resources and improving the nation’s transportation infrastructure have been top priorities for me and my office.
I am honored to be the senior member from Illinois on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials. These unique roles allow me to lead on transportation issues of importance to the district and the nation. I am proud to have secured millions in federal funds for the transportation needs of our district.  Our country and our district are constantly on the move. The ease and safety of transportation are essential to the business of the country and the lives of all Americans.  Through preservation and innovation, I am working to improve our air, rail, automotive, cycling, and pedestrian infrastructure.
