Chairman Lipinski Announces Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Hearing on Commuter Railroads (September 23, 2019)

Washington, DC- On Tuesday, the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials will hold a hearing titled, “Challenges and Opportunities for Commuter Railroads.” The hearing, which will be presided over by Railroad Subcommittee Chairman Daniel Lipinski (IL-3), will explore the state of the commuter rail industry, challenges commuter rail service providers face, and opportunities to address issues through legislation.

“We need our commuter railroads to be consistently reliable to meet the needs of commuters in my district and across the country who rely on this service as a primary source of transportation,” said Lipinski. “Given the importance of commuter railroads to our constituents and the American economy at large, I am pleased we are having a hearing focused solely on commuter railroads for the first time in a decade and look forward to discussing solutions and ways to implement dedicated funding sources.”

More information about the hearing, including testimony, additional background information, and live webcast, can be found here once available.
